Quit tobacco improves the health of the heart

Stopping smoking does not immediately reduce the risk of lung cancer but will produce at least the immediate benefits for the heart. The effects of smoking on the heart have been the focus of a study conducted by a team of researchers at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research (Manhasset, NY – USA). Research results were published in the journal of the American College of Chest Physicians (Chest, July 2009).

According to what was observed by the researchers, people who quit tobacco have immediate benefits on the heart and in general throughout the cardiovascular system. The researchers carried out a series of tests on a group of women who had decided to quit smoking, have analyzed the details related to specific biomarkers of cardiovascular inflammation.

Analyzing the data collected it was found a very interesting. When the patient stops smoking, and therefore end the introduction of toxic substances in cigarette smoke, there was a significant decrease in the body of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF), soluble TNF receptor type I and II and the molecule-1 vascular cell adhesion (VCAM-1).

Quit tobacco can only do good to our body. Although the results of some studies have shown that once abandoned the habit of smoking are the years to reduce health risks, in some cases, as in cardiovascular disease-related apparatus, the benefits could be immediate.
